Our God is an AWESOME God!

To quote the late Rich Mullins' chorus from his song, 'Our God is an Awesome God':
"Our God is an awesome God,
He reigns from heaven above,
with wisdom, pow'r and love,
Our God is an awesome God! "
Have you ever looked up at the sun, and wondered how is it that it can heat the earth from so far away? Did you ever stop to think about how is it that it never overheats to burn us up to little black crisps?

How is it that we have day and night regularly timed each day? How is it that Spring and Fall comes regularly? How does the tide know not to come in too far, and how does it know when to recede? Why do the waves turn and return to the ocean once they reach a certain point on the sandy beach?

Why do birds sing so beautifully? Why are the clouds and skies so beautiful? Why are flowers so beautifully captivating? Why are Spring and Fall so breathtaking? Why is the ocean and all of her creatures so wonderfully made?

How is it that in the billions of people that are living/have lived on the face of the earth that no two of us are or ever have been exact duplicates?

The answers to these little questions to prove that our God is an awesome God, He reigns from heaven above, with wisdom, power and love, our God is an awesome God!

After looking around, and I can't help but quote another Rich Mullin's song, "Everywhere I go, I see You!" ('You' - referring to God).

Today is the day that we have designated to celebrate the birthdate of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who was born to die. I am beyond humbled and honored that God the Father loved me so much that he devised a plan to send His son to earth, to teach me about Him, and to ultimately offer Himself for me as a bridge between me and the Father for my salvation.

God had no other perfect way but to offer and sacrifice His perfect, without blemish Son for the redemption and atonement of my sins to bridge that great divide between me and His holiness.

After the Son was seated at the right hand of the Father, God sent His Holy Spirit and inspired His Holy Word to lead me and guide me into all truths. And the truth of the matter is, everywhere I go I see Him. God is everywhere!

I feel that I should remember, recognize and celebrate the birthday of our Savior everyday...not just on Christmas Day! Have a good day celebrating the most wonder gift ever given to mankind: The birth of our Savior. Share His love!

...And What About You?

This has been in the back of my mind since 12:30 pm today, and I am going to burst, if I don't unload my mood. I apologize in advance for this post...it's a downer.

Today during lunch time, I was sitting among people I know from another office at work. We were kind of trying to fill time, because we were waiting for another person to rejoin us so we could continue with our listening to our friend play her cello, while we sang Christmas carols. I take it that most of them did not know she was a cellist. I knew, because I knew this was her true life's passion.

During this down time, my cellist friend started mentioning about all of these wonderful discoveries she'd recently made about some of our colleagues and co-workers. She shared the fact that out of the people in the room, she'd just learned that one person used to be a history teacher before she gained her position she currently has, another was a state champion badminton player, and another was a champion tennis player.

Then she turns to me, and asks me to tell everyone in the room something about myself. If I were white, I would have been as red as a rotten tomato. I could not think of anything to say. So to save me, she volunteers that I can make beautiful jewelry....I felt SO stupid!

Actually, there is NOTHING spectacular about me or any of my life's contributions. I even doubt my abilities to be a good mother and wife on some days...plus that is just an ordinary achievement. Just about everyone in the room was a parent....and I am sure they all consider themselves to be good parents and spouses.

I had to leave not too soon after that, so her question gave me something to reflect upon...what have I done with my life? Nothing. How has my life benefitted the world, society, my community, or even my neighborhood? Yeah, right.... Just as I thought. It has not....not one bit.

What can God do with my life? I dunno. It's up to Him at this point. As Rudolph the Reindeer just sang, "Why am I just such a misfit? I am not just a nitwit." But now I really feel like it.

As Clarice (the girl reindeer that Rudolph liked), sang, "There's always tomorrow for dreams to come true, tomorrow is not far away...."

Hmm...maybe even one day for me.

Cell Phones vs. The Bible

I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible
like we treat our cell phones?

What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?

What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?

What if we flipped through it several times a day?

What if we used it to receive messages from the text?

What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?

What if we gave it to kids as gifts?

What if we used it as we traveled?

What if we used it in case of an emergency?

What if we upgraded it to get the latest version?

This is something to make you go...hmmm...where is your Bible right now?

Oh, and one more thing. Unlike your cell phone, you don't ever have to worry about your Bible being disconnected because your Lord and Savior has already paid the bill!

I Can Only Imagine

Have you ever given thought to what your response may be, at that appointed moment in time, when you meet our Saviour face to face? We can only imagine what a glorious experience that may be like. Here on earth, one moment you may laughing, the next, you may be crying, or filled with awe, or maybe speechless in His presence. To have the privilege to worship face down at His feet, surrounded by His magnificent glory... Wow....

I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me

I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk
By your side

I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When your face
Is before me
I can only imagine

[Chorus:]
Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the Son

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine

[Chorus:]
Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship you

Oh, How He Loves You and Me

I visited a friend's church last night. When they sang this song, the reality of what God has done seemed to hit people with a sudden reality of the magnitude of His love. People were freely worshipping Him in love. It was wonderful.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life
."
John 3:16

Oh, how He loves you and me,
Oh, how He loves you and me.
He gave His life, what more could He give;
Oh, how He loves you, Oh, how He loves me,
Oh, how He loves you and me.

Jesus to Calv'ry did go,
His love for mankind to show.
What He did there brought hope from despair.
Oh, how He loves you, Oh, how He loves me,
Oh how He loves you and me.

Oh, how He loves you and me,
Oh, how He loves you and me.
He gave His life, what more could He give;
Oh, how He loves you, Oh, how He loves me,
Oh, how He loves you and me!

I AM a Friend of God!!!!

The Song: I am a Friend of God
by Israel Houghton and Michael Gungor

Israel Houghton sings "I am a Friend of God"

The Lyrics:
Who am I that You are mindful of me
That You hear me when I call
Is it true that You are thinking of me
How You love me it's amazing

(Chorus)
I am a friend of God
I am a friend of God
I am a friend of God
He calls me friend

God Almighty, Lord of Glory
You have called me friend

(Repeat Chorus)
He calls me friend
He calls me friend...

We sang this song at church two Sundays ago, and it has been on my heart and on my lips every day since! The words just sank in down and stirred within my soul as the meaning of the lyrics seeped into my bones! It just boggles my mind to think that the Almighty God has called us His friends! You don't believe me? Let's look at what the Word says:

"Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness and he was called the friend of God." James 2:23

Jesus says, “You are my friends if you do whatever I command you.” John 15:14, 15

By living a life of obedience in love, we demonstrate to others that we are friends with God Almighty.

“This is my commandment: Love each other.”
John 15:17

Did you notice that Jesus’ friendship with us is characterized by full disclosure on His part? During the days He walked in the flesh, Christ revealed everything he learned from the Father to His disciples, and ultimately to us.

"I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends for everything that I have learned from my Father I have made known to you." John 15:15

Jesus gave us the best knowledge we could ever want from Him...the knowledge of the Father Himself, shared with us through the Word! He hasn’t kept secrets from us, but instead has given us an intimate peek into God as our Father through His Word. He generously gives us wisdom in understanding the Word, and how to live according to His Word. He willingly reveals his mind and character to us through the Word too! Isn’t genuine friendship built on disclosure and trust? It is amazing to me that our Savior would reveal Himself to us in such an intimate and full way!

Jesus also models true friendship for us in scripture. He shared the thoughts, desires and hopes that God our Father has for us. He disclosed the ways of God through His life. He shares His sacrificial love for us. He demonstrates His love for us in a way that could never be duplicated or surpassed.

He wants the same honest disclosure from us too...about everything. Why try to hide anything? Does that make sense? He knows about everything in us anyway! He can see deep into our hearts where we try to hide our ugliest secrets from everyone. And we may be successful hiding it from everyone else…but not Him. So why be a hypocrite and hold back the truth about our feelings from Him? Let it out!

Even what you think may be viewed as audacity in your full disclosure to Him, God views as authenticity. Express yourself, unburden yourself, and experience freedom in Christ like never before as the strongholds of secrecy and unconfessed sins are lifted!

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” I John 1:9

What do we have to lose? We only lose our egotistical self pretenses in front of God. He is not going to love us any less! In the process of shedding the useless false pretenses, unhindered by guilt or fear, in being completely honest about everything, our relationship with our heavenly Father deepens and becomes intimate.

“…Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” Hebrews 13:5

He has spoken nothing but truth to us…can we do the same in return?

These are the lyrics to a song called "You Called Me Friend” by Fred Hammond.

Perfect and true,
Pure in all Your ways,
Oh Lord, there is none else like You,
no one like You,
and all these things,
keep me in awe of You,
and I'm overwhelmed that you would,
call me friend.

I guess I still find it utterly amazing that the perfect, omniscient God would want a friendship with me…obviously His grace, forgiveness and the blood of Jesus covers me beyond measure ever so completely!

“The Son of Man came … a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” Matthew 11:19a

Are YOU Ready?

"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour."
Matthew 25:12-14

"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."
Mark 13:31-33

"Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee." Revelation 3:2-4 (KJV)
