I wrote this on February 18, 2007, but for some reason (unknown to me now), I did not publish it to my blog. Oh well, here it is:
Oh me, oh my, I'm a fool for you baby
(Fool for you) Oh me oh my
I am crazy (crazy baby)
Oh me, oh my (me oh my)
Yeah I'm a fool for ya baby
C'mon let your love light shine on me
(Shine on me)
That was one of Aretha Franklin's hits.
Heh, heh! Not typical lyrics of what you've come to expect from me, huh? That song just popped into my head while I was thinking about what I was going to write about today. I'll be a fool for Christ anyday for sure...and a little thing I did today made me think of that song.....
Today, a girlfriend of mine called me when I was on my way to church to tell me that she could not make it to church today. Her daughter was sick, and she needed to stay home with her. I always save a seat for my friend, so that is the main reason why she called me...to let me know to free up the seat she knew I would be holding for her.
In the course of the conversation she stated that she really did not want to miss the song portion of the worship service. She wished that she could be there and sing along with everyone else during the songs.
She said, "Yeah, I wish I could listen on your cell phone to the service." I said, "Yeah right...I'd have you on speaker, and a call would come in on the other line, and everyone would hear my phone, and I'd be busted!" She said, NO! Only have the phone on for the singing portion of the praise and worship service, and the music will drown out any sound your phone could possibly make!"
Wow! Okay! I can relate to her unwillingness to have to miss out on the whole service! Man! I know how it feels to miss out on the corporate worship service when you really want to be there but circumstances dictate otherwise. :-(
So what did I do? Heh, heh! I called her just before the music started, and handed my phone to another friend several rows away. (I did not want the close proximity of my tambourine praise to drown out everything else. She listened on her headphones at home and praised God right along with us! A little unconventional? Well, maybe...but I've seen people do it at concerts plenty of times....so why can't we "plug into" church?
Before you write me and start criticizing everything, just know that we all already know that we are the church, the body of Christ....not the edifice. We already know that you can worship God with music and without music. We also know that you do not have to have corporate worship to experience the blessings of God. Corporate worship should enhance your personal relationship with God.
I don't know how many times in my blog I have said this, but I know I have mentioned it numerous times: I LOVE my church! The people, the worship, the teaching, the fellowship! I thank God for it all!
"We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, we are dishonored!" I Corinthians 4:10
