FCF does 40 Days of Purpose!

This year my church decided to undertake the “40 Days of Purpose” initiative. When I first heard the news, I was extremely excited, because I really enjoyed the book, “The Purpose Driven Life.” After so many years of church drudgery in years gone past, this book, along with my membership at my current church were among the first steps in the Word becoming alive for me again!

Well, this past Sunday was the kick off day for our 40 Days of Purpose! Our church has approximately 75 small groups set up to meet weekly in members’ homes over the course of six weeks to learn more about God’s Word.

As a side note: We have moved into our new FCF Family life Center building, and we have merged the two congregations (the 9:00 am and the 11:00 am) together. As a result, a lot of the people attending the same church may not even know each other. I believe this 40 Days of Purpose initiative will also help foster a better sense of community among the members of the church who do not know each other.

My group meets on Wednesday nights, and I was looking forward to it all day! One member brought her 84 year old grandmother with her, and that vibrant, little woman lit the table up! Paraphrasing her, here is one thing that she said that cracked us up, “I thought I was all that and a bag of chips, until I met the Lord!” We were just about in tears with her inflection of how she said that line, and many other jewels of wisdom.

As I has hoped, night did not disappoint…we listened to the lesson on the DVD, and the people shared what was on their hearts…and we were able to encourage each other with scripture, and our own life experiences. God is surely doing a work in my group, and I am sure He is in all of the groups that are participating in this initiative! Watch out world! FCF is lighting Owings Mills and the surrounding areas up!!

I'll keep you posted!
